More than 35,000 people registered for the COVID vaccine at Campo Ford on the first day

DETROIT – Within 24 hours of opening the registry, Meijer registered more than 35,000 people for the next COVID-19 vaccination clinics at Ford Field.

The retailer opened its online registration around 4pm on Monday and registered about 2,000 people an hour on Tuesday.

Store employees said they had registered more than 1.7 million people for vaccination across the Midwest.

“I couldn’t be more proud of our quick response, but the job has not been completed,” said Meijer CEO Rick Keyes. “We are excited to bring this technology – and our teams of experts – to Ford Field to support the state of Michigan and FEMA in this critical endeavor.

Those wishing to register can send a text message with EndCovid to 75049 and select Ford Field as the location.

Meijer said the store chain plans to focus on sending invitations to individuals based on the Social Vulnerability Index (SVI) to vaccinate the most vulnerable in Detroit, as well as in Wayne, Macomb and Oakland counties.
