More than 29,000 first doses of the COVID-19 vaccine administered so far in Douglas County, 24 new cases | News, sports, jobs

March 22 Health Department COVID-19 update

Data from four local health organizations showed that more than 29,000 first doses of the COVID-19 vaccine were administered in Douglas County on Thursday.

In all, data from the four distributors – LMH Health, Lawrence-Douglas County Public Health, Heartland Community Health Center and Haskell Indian Health Center – showed that 29,322 first doses and 15,517 second doses of the COVID-19 vaccine were administered.

That’s an increase of 3,674 first doses and 2,543 second doses since the county last reported the vaccine distribution information to the Journal-World on March 11. Last week was the first time that Johnson & Johnson vaccines were distributed in Douglas County, and 266 doses were administered.

The most recent vaccine distribution data shows that the four organizations mentioned above administered 29,322 of the 33,505 first doses they received, or about 87.5%. The four organizations also administered 15,517 of the 20,567 second doses they received, or about 75.4%.

With the first and second doses, the four Douglas County organizations administered 44,839 total doses by Thursday. That’s an increase of 6,217 doses since the last data release on March 11.

Douglas County reported 8,836 cases of COVID-19 on Monday, an increase of 24 cases since the data was last reported on Thursday.

In Douglas County, 8,586 of the 8,836 cases are inactive or beyond the infectious period, according to Lawrence-Douglas County Public Health, which means 250 cases are active.

The county recorded an average of about 7 new cases per day for the past 14 days, according to a 14-day moving average chart updated during the week by the health department. The current average of 7.14 new cases is the lowest moving average the county has seen since the summer and is below a recent high of around 71 cases per day in early January.

Douglas County has a 14-day COVID-19 incidence rate of 83.13 per 100,000 people and a 2% test positivity rate. The test’s positivity rates are 6.8% in Lecompton, 4.8% in Eudora, 1.8% in Lawrence and 0% in Baldwin City. Four patients at Lawrence’s hospital had COVID-19 on Monday, the same number as Thursday. To date, 80 Douglas County residents have died of COVID-19.
