More than 190,000 Home Depot ceiling fans collected due to reports that blades flew and hit people

Ceiling fans sold by Home Depot are being retracted due to the potential for blades to come loose during use and cause injury, reports CBS.

The United States Consumer Product Safety Commission has issued a recall notice for Hampton Bay 54-inch Indoor / Outdoor fans produced by Florida-based manufacturer King of Fans. Before the recall, 47 reports were made on the blades highlighted in this model. In two incidents, the damaged blade hit someone, and in four separate incidents the displaced blade caused material damage.

The building materials store, which sold more than 190,000 ceiling fans, was the only retailer of the product now collected. About 182,000 were sold in the United States and an additional 8,800 were sold through Home Depot in Canada.

Fans were available online and in stores from April to October, priced at around $ 150.

The recall notice instructs those who purchased the defective fans to avoid further use and contact the manufacturer for a free replacement.

“Consumers should immediately stop using ceiling fans and inspect them using the instructions at www.kingoffans.com/MaraRecall.htm or by visiting the QR code listed in the recall press release,” says the warning. “If consumers observe the movement of the blades or uneven spaces between the blades and the fan body or the movement of the clip during inspection, consumers should immediately contact King of Fans to obtain a free replacement ceiling fan. . “
