More than 18,000 people in Iowa complete vaccination, the rate of new cases continues to rise

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – Thousands of others in Iowa have completed their coronavirus vaccination course, while the seven-day continuous average of new cases per day is at its highest level since the end of February, according to new state data.

As of 10:30 am on Saturday, the Iowa Department of Public Health reported that 531 people who tested positive for COVID-19 had been added to the state total since the same time on Friday, which is now 349,141 people since the beginning of the pandemic.

Eight people who died with COVID-19 have been reported to the state since Friday morning. A total of 5,716 people died from the virus.

201 people are hospitalized in Iowa due to COVID-19, a net reduction of six in the past 24 hours. 43 of these people are in intensive care units, a net reduction of three. 12 of these patients require the use of a ventilator, a net reduction of two. 33 people were recently admitted to Iowa hospitals with the virus in the latest 24-hour reporting period, a slightly lower number than in the previous 33 period.

A total of 1,396,382 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in Iowa so far, an increase of 42,347 since the same time on Friday. 543,193 people completed their vaccination schedule, either through two-dose vaccines or the Johnson & Johnson one-dose vaccine, an increase of 18,245.

The first examinations of 2,703 individuals were notified to the state in the past 24 hours. The positivity rate for this batch of tests was 19.6%, significantly lower than the 30.4% of the previous day. A total of 1,628,836 individuals have been tested for the virus since the beginning of the pandemic.
