A winter storm alert has been issued for much of downtown New York, as 20 to 30 centimeters of snow is expected to fall on Monday and Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service.
The notice was issued to parts of Onondaga, Oneida, Cayuga, Madison and Cortland counties. The expected duration is from 10am on Monday to 4pm on Tuesday.
About an inch of snow is expected to fall during the day on Monday, with heavier snow moving on Monday night and Tuesday morning, according to the National Meteorological Service. Snow is expected to stop falling late Tuesday morning or early Tuesday afternoon, the National Meteorological Service said.
Meteorologists at the National Weather Service said downtown New York could see two winter storms this week, the second being larger than the first.
