More features of the Galaxy S21 camera arrive on the Galaxy S20, Note 20 series

Samsung launched the Galaxy S21 series earlier this year with impressive camera capabilities. Now, the company is rolling out some of these camera-related features on its older next-generation smartphones, including the Galaxy S20 series and the Galaxy Note 20 series, through a new software update.

With the new update, which is being launched in Germany now, the Galaxy S20, Galaxy S20 +, Galaxy S20 Ultra, Galaxy Note 20 and Galaxy Note 20 Ultra received new camera features. Users can now capture portrait images in low light conditions, something that was previously only possible with the Galaxy S21 series. Night Mode also works with the ultra-wide camera.

The company also added three new effects in Portrait mode: backdrop, high-tone mono and low-tone mono. These studio-like effects allow you to change the background color to black, white, or a random color chosen by the camera application. In Night mode, users can now let the camera choose the exposure or use the maximum exposure possible. In addition, the ultra-wide camera can now be used in the camera’s Pro mode.

For those who were hopeful of getting the Galaxy S21 Director View on their Galaxy S20 or Galaxy Note 20 series phones, there is some bad news. None of these phones received the Director’s View feature, most likely due to the limitations of the processor’s ISP (image signal processor).

The new software update has a firmware version G98xxXXU7DUC7 for the Galaxy S20 series and N98xxXXU1DUC8 for the Galaxy Note 20 series. If you are in Germany, you can check the update on your Galaxy S20 or Galaxy Note 20 series device by navigating to settings » Software update and touching Download and install. The update could be rolled out to more markets in the coming weeks.
