More 467 cases of COVID-19, 2 deaths, more than 25K vaccines reported Saturday in Utah

SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah Department of Health is reporting an additional 467 confirmed cases of COVID-19, two more deaths and an additional 25,861 vaccines administered in the state.

Overall, this brings Utah to a total of 381,254 confirmed cases, 2,060 coronavirus-related deaths and 1,137,046 vaccines administered since the start of the pandemic.

There are 160 Utahns currently hospitalized due to COVID-19, including 57 in intensive care, the health department said on Saturday. The state is currently using around 75% of its ICU capacity.

Saturday’s numbers arrive when another 14,990 tests have been carried out, officials said.

Last week, the state recorded an average of 469 new cases per day and a positive test-to-test rate of 4.1%. A month ago, Utah had an average of 779 cases a day.

The deaths reported on Saturday were of two men aged 65 to 84 who were hospitalized when they died. One was from Davis County and the other was from Weber County, the health department said.

On Wednesday, March 24, Utah will open the vaccine schedule for all Utah adults who want one. The vaccine is currently available only to Utahns aged 50 and over and those with certain underlying health conditions.

The inauguration comes at a time when the state anticipates the end of its masked term on April 10. Many companies and local governments are still evaluating their own ongoing masking requirements.
