Monsoon floods in Indonesia: more than 1,300 in Jakarta forced to evacuate

The heavy monsoon floods in various areas of the Indonesian capital forced more than 1,300 people to evacuate on Saturday, Reuters reported.

The big picture: The country’s meteorological agency warned that conditions are likely to worsen as the strongest rain of the season could fall in and around Jakarta next week, according to Reuters.

  • Authorities said early on Saturday that about 200 neighborhoods were affected by the floods.
  • The floods reached almost 6 feet in height in some areas, according to Reuters.
  • The news agency noted that floods occur as the country continues to see a large number of coronavirus cases.
