The Patriots lost to the Bills 38-9 on Monday night, and that 29-point margin was the worst in more than 17 years.

The last time the Patriots lost by a larger margin was in the First Week of 2003, also for the Bills, when New England was eliminated 31-0. That game had special significance because attorney Milloy, a longtime patriot, was cut off by Bill Belichick just five days before the game. Milloy then promptly signed with Bills and contributed to the Patriots’ defeat.

That year, the Patriots changed things. They got 14-1 for the rest of the regular season and then won the Super Bowl, and ended the regular season by beating Milloy and Bills by the same score of 31-0.

This year, the Patriots don’t have time to make this turnaround, as they are already mathematically eliminated from the playoffs.
