(Reuters) – Moderna Inc. said on Tuesday it had received a report from the California health department that several people at a San Diego center were treated for possible allergic reactions to the COVID-19 vaccine in a given batch.

The company’s comments came after the top California epidemiologist released a statement on Sunday recommending providers to pause vaccination for batch #. 41L20A due to possible allergic reactions that are under investigation.

“A greater than normal number of possible allergic reactions has been reported with a specific batch of Modern vaccine administered at a community vaccination clinic. Less than 10 individuals needed medical attention during the 24-hour period,” said the epidemiologist in a statement here.

The vaccine manufacturer said he was unaware of comparable cases of adverse events from other vaccination centers that may have administered vaccines from the same batch or other batches of his vaccine.

A total of 307,300 doses of the batch remain in storage, said Moderna, of the total 1,272,200 doses that were produced in the batch.

Moderna said it is working closely with US health regulators to understand the cases and whether the pause in using the lot is justified.

Nearly one million doses of the batch have already been distributed to about 1,700 vaccination posts in 37 states, Moderna said. (bit.ly/39MPtlF)
