The games for the six New Year’s cups may technically have started on Wednesday night, but the New Year’s Day bowling screen is one that caught the attention of bettors for a few weeks.

It is also the one that has been illuminating some of our PRO betting tools, including our model projections, at least in the case of Auburn vs. Northwestern Citrus Bowl.

note: Odds, given as of 19:00 ET on Friday.

The betting market lists No. 14 Northwestern as a 3.5 to 4 point favorite, but our model is not as optimistic about Wildcats. In fact, he sees this game much closer to a headshot, favoring the runner-up to the Big Ten by just 1.8 points.

And although a difference of 2.2 points may not seem huge, it is much more important because it crosses one of the most important numbers in football betting, given the frequency of final 3-point scoring margins.

This gives Auburn a grade B betting advantage, the third largest spread margin remaining in the bowl season.
