even though Grand Theft Auto V has been in fashion for almost a decade at this point, many fans still have a weakness for the entry that preceded it in GTA IV. Fortunately for this fan base, the fourth installment of the long series may soon receive a major graphic overhaul that may make it much easier to return in the future.
In a new project called RevIVe by BisonSales, a new group of modders is essentially looking to remaster Grand Theft Auto IV with modern looks. So far, what has appeared seems incredible. This talent uses the iCEnhancer 4 beta mod to completely recreate the graphical fidelity of GTA IV. This includes revisions to textures, lighting and even overall game performance.
For now, iCEnhancer and RevIVe have just released an initial video showing this graphic mod in action (which you can watch above), but what was highlighted looks excellent. While there is still a lot of work to be done on the project, the textures that can be seen in this new iteration of Liberty City match what we expect from next generation titles.
At the moment, this RevIVe project is still in the early stages of development and may take a little longer to launch. The creators said that this is just something they work on in their spare time right now, but they are looking to raise more funds through Patreon so that they can dedicate more time to their creation.
The other major drawback of this mod is that it will obviously only be available to those on the PC as soon as it arrives. While games for PlayStation and Xbox have ventured more with mods over the years, GTA IV it is too old to allow that. If you want to play on a console, you can do so by searching on PS3 or playing on Xbox One or Xbox Series X / S through backward compatibility.
In short, if this RevIVe mod ends up seeing the light of day, it will be a truly impressive feat and it will certainly do GTA IV much more attractive to revisit. If there are any further developments with the creation of this mod in the future, we will inform you in our dedicated GTA cover page.
