MLB News: Braves Ink Marcell Ozuna will make a four-year deal

One of the biggest lazers left on the open market is close to finding a home.

The Atlanta Braves announced that they and the outfielder Marcell Ozuna agreed to a four-year deal, $ 65 million. The contract would include a fifth-year option that could raise the overall value to $ 80 million.

Ozuna, 30, joined the Braves last winter on a one-year “prove” contract after starting his career with the Miami Marlins and making a stop in St. Louis with the Cardinals as well.

In the shortened 2020 season, the native of the Dominican Republic appeared in all 60 games and had a triple bar of .338 / .431 / .636 to go along with 18 home runs, a crazy 179 wRC + and .444 wOBA and 2 , 5 fWAR.

Ozuna played on the left field in just 19 games last year, when he spent most of the campaign as Atlanta’s designated hitter. Although most of Ozuna’s production comes with the stick, he proved to be an average fielder too.

For his career, he has 12 saved defensive runs (DRS) and a final zone range of 25.6 (UZR). However, if the Major League Baseball institutes a universal DH, one must imagine that this is how Atlanta will implement it.

Ozuna is represented by CAA Sports.
