The Chicago Bears left the Mitchell Trubisky era, hiring Andy Dalton in the process. Although things didn’t end in the way I’m sure Trubisky would like, he found a new home in Buffalo.
As reported last week, Trubisky signed a $ 2 million one-year contract with Bills, with a guaranteed $ 1.5 million, along with a $ 500,000 signing bonus. He can win up to $ 4.5 million, with $ 2 million in incentives, but that would require some playing time.
On Monday, Trubisky closed the deal, officially making him the reserve quarterback for Bills.

Even though their chapter in Chicago is over – for now – it looks like there is no resentment on their side. Trubisky was one of the most polarizing figures when playing as a defender for Bears. Trubisky put the team first, stayed out of trouble, was always great with the media, was a great representative of the Bears – being friendly and a good role model for children, and won football games. Even after all that, it seemed like he could never have a break with fans, former players and the media.
In all fairness, Trubisky went 25-13 under Matt Nagy, playing 57 touchdowns, 30 interceptions and completing 65.3% of his passes. He also made the playoffs twice (0-2) and made it to the Pro Bowl in 2018.
Trubisky has the record for most passing yards for a new Bears quarterback, as well as being the fastest defender to reach 10,000 yards with a Bears shirt.
He will place Bears in first place in passer classification (minimum of 300 attempts), fifth in passing yards, fifth in passing touchdowns and fifth in victories. It is not a bad race in just 50 matches. Trubisky is also the only NFL defender to play more than 50 games and not play a career choice of six.
For Trubisky going forward, Bill’s GM, Brandon Beane, doesn’t see him staying in Buffalo for long:
“This is a great reset for him and we don’t expect him to stay here for long,” he said. “Hopefully, in a year he will have a chance to come back and get a good contract and a starting job somewhere.”
Working with the same group that helped Josh Allen make an impressive leap from Year 2 to Year 3 should help Trubisky improve as a defender. If Trubisky can make a leap on its own and win the chance to start somewhere in 2022, the decision to come to Buffalo as a reserve will have been a good one.
