Missouri softball series with quick-start hands sweeps South Carolina Mizzou Sports

Coming in at the top of the second entry, Missouri softball had two runs down against South Carolina. When the round ended, seven runs were left.

A giant nine-race inning propelled the Tigers to a 10-6 victory, and a series sweep over the Gamecocks on Saturday in Columbia, South Carolina.

South Carolina faced nine Missouri on the bat before getting a runoff in the second round. Cayla Kessinger turned to lead the inning, before consecutive doubles of Kendyll Bailey and Emma Raabe tied the score. By the time the shift was over, each of the Missouri beginners had a run for his name.

Kessinger, Raabe, Brooke Wilmes and Casidy Chaumont ended the game with two RBI.

Sophie Dandola is credited with winning for the Tigers. She threw three full innings, giving up on a hit and a walk while improving to 3-0 this season.

The Tigers (28-7, 6-3 Southeast Conference) will face LSU at 6:30 pm on Friday in Columbia.

Tigers finish fourth in the NCAA regional final

Missouri gymnastics finished fourth out of four programs at the NCAA Regional Final in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

The Tigers finished with a total of 196,550 points, just behind Arkansas, in third place (196,700). Oklahoma won the event in 198,175, 0.600, ahead of runner-up Alabama.

Sienna Schreiber had the two best individual performances of the day in Missouri. She drew second in the jump with a total of 9,900, in what was the best result of the day in Missouri. The second year also finished fourth on the beam with a score of 9.925.

Anastasia Webb from Oklahoma won the general event with a combined score for the floor, beam, bars and jump of 39,700. Schreiber tied for fourth place with 39,525. Missouri’s Amaya Marshall also made it to the top 10, finishing ninth with a score of 39.275.

Softball stars drop both legs on the doubleheader

Stephens College softball fell 8-2 and 11-5 in its doublehead against No. 13 Central Baptist on Saturday in Columbia.

Entering the fifth round of Game 1, Stars led for two runs after Taylor Ditzfeld hit a two-run home run at the end of the third. The Mustangs recovered, leveling the game with single score entries on the fifth and seventh to send the game for extra entries.

Stephens’ in-house players had a terrible eighth inning, recording three mistakes while Batista Central made six unassailable races to claim the contest.

The Mustangs led end-to-end in the second game, starting with three races at the top of the first. Stars kept the fight going until the sixth entry, but Central Baptist again finished strong, placing six races in the last two entries.

Stephens (7-9, 4-4 American Midwest Conference) faces William Woods in a doubleheader at 1pm Tuesday in Fulton.

Rock Bridge boys baseball fall for Kickapoo

The Rock Bridge boys’ baseball lost 8-7 to Kickapoo on Saturday in Ozark.

With the game tied in seven, Anderson Underwood, of Kickapoo, got the better and beat the Bruins.

Rock Bridge will play Lee’s Summit in their next game, which is at 5 pm on Thursday.

Bruins and Kewpies, both excluded by Eagles

Liberty North defeated women’s football Rock Bridge 6-0 and Hickman 4-0 at the KC Tournament.

The Kewpies are on the road again for their next game, facing Southern Boone on April 12 in Ashland.

The Bruins return home to play against Helias at 5 pm on Monday.
