Missing NC hunter found dead in SC

JONESVILLE (AP) – A hunter who disappeared in South Carolina was found dead after a search by several agencies over the weekend.

Union county sheriff’s deputies and the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources began looking for John Michael Houser of Kings Mountain, North Carolina, after he was reported missing while hunting on Saturday, according to the agency.

Authorities used K-9 units and a South Carolina Police Division helicopter to search for the 52-year-old man until about 11:30 pm, when the effort was suspended due to difficult terrain and a lack of light, the sheriff’s office said .

The search resumed on Sunday morning and rescue workers discovered Houser’s body in a wooded area in Jonesville at around 1 pm, reportedly, citing the coroner’s office.

The authorities did not immediately report the cause of death or the circumstances of his disappearance. An autopsy was scheduled for Tuesday.

The investigation continued in progress.
