Missing navigators aboard the Palm Beach sailboat found safely in the Bahamas

PALM BEACH, Florida – A missing pair of sailors who disappeared near the Bahamas a week ago aboard a boat based in Palm Beach were found safe, the US Coast Guard confirmed on Wednesday.

Authorities tweeted at about 4:30 pm that Marty Sure Widrick, 51, and Sven Gunnar Karlsson, 72, were found safely on Great Harbor Cay, in the Bahamas.

No further details were released.

The Coast Guard said Widrick and Karlsson were last seen on December 16 leaving Matthew Town in the Bahamas for a trip to Providenciales in the Turks and Caicos Islands.

According to a family friend, the couple were supposed to meet Widrick’s daughter in the Turks and Caicos Islands, but they never arrived.

Widrick and Karlsson were aboard a 50-foot sailboat called “Get Nauti”.

The back of the boat says “Palm Beach”, which probably refers to the port of landing.
