Missing climber Narineh Avakian, 37, found dead in California

A Southern California woman was found dead after disappearing on a solo hike, officials said.

Narineh Avakian, 37, was discovered near Mt. Waterman Trail in the Angeles National Forest in San Fernando at around 1:30 pm on Saturday, said the Glendale Police Department.

Avakian was last seen when she left on March 7 from her home in Glendale for a one-day hiking expedition, police said.

But as she did not return the next day, her family reported her disappearance to the authorities.

Avakian did not tell his family where he was going, but she was an avid hiker, officials said.

“According to the family, it is common for Narineh to go hiking with groups and on solo trips – although lately she has been traveling alone,” said the police.

On Thursday afternoon, his car was found parked in the Buckhorn Day Use Area along the Angeles Crest Highway, officials said.

“It should be noted that this area has been heavily affected by the recent snowstorm,” said police on Friday.

There is no suspicion of a crime in his death, but the investigation is ongoing, officials said.

The coroner’s office is now working to determine the cause of death, reported the KCBS-TV news station.
