Miramar business owner says NYE Warehouse party venue has hosted events – NBC 7 San Diego

A businessman next door to a Miramar warehouse who threw a New Year’s Eve party that defied public health orders said Thursday’s event was not an isolated incident.

“The guys next to us have been partying constantly here, I think by ignoring COVID rules and regulations and just doing their own thing and not adhering to any stipulations,” Sydney Signs, owner of City Signs, told NBC 7.

At least three party attendees were injured during the insubordinate New Year’s Eve party, when a stage collapsed under the weight of a crowd, according to the San Diego Police Department. Shortly afterwards, dozens of people were seen fleeing the warehouse, which is on Trade Street, near Camino Santa Fe, north of Miramar Road.

Rosin said several parties were held at the warehouse next to his company. Next to the City Signs there are two vacant suites – one directly next to and one above. Both warehouses are rented by the same person and have been used for parties. It is not clear whether the tenant of the units is responsible for carrying out the events or is subletting the space.

Cigarette butts, red cups and empty beer cans and alcohol bottles scattered outside the area indicate that a social gathering took place nearby, and Rosin said he was concerned about the impact of Thursday’s event on his business.

He told NBC 7 that he fears the public will falsely assume that City Signs has something to do with the parties. Rosin said he reported the events “three or four times” to 211, but saw no action taken.

“We felt that we could never call a certain number so that they would act immediately. They would just analyze it, write the documentation and say, ‘OK, let’s go over it’, which I think is very wrong ”.

Dave Summers of NBC 7 arrived at the warehouse while the guests were leaving.

The property manager was also informed of the incidents and said that a board meeting would be held on the matter. However, nothing has been done, according to Rosin.

Although having another party next to his business was not the ideal way to end the year, Rosin said he was “relieved” about the incidents coming up.

“The reason is that I hope something is done about it now, instead of me being upset about it for months and months on end,” he said. “I felt like my hands were tied, so I hope that now something can be done about it and people can move on and do what they should be doing.”
