Mike Richardson, a former Chicago Bear who was on the 1985-1986 Super Bowl winning team, was arrested in connection with a homicide in Phoenix. Investigators believe Richardson, 59 – also known as LA Mike – shot a man worth $ 200 worth of cocaine, said CBS affiliate KPHO-TV in Phoenix.
Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office
The police said the Phoenix police found the victim – later identified as Ronald Like – shortly after 9 am local time on Tuesday. Guy, 47, was pronounced dead at an area hospital, the station reported.
Richardson was arrested in Mesa, Arizona, on Wednesday afternoon, the station reported. The court documents indicated that the police said the witness’s testimony said Richardson is “considered a drug dealer” and has a history of drug offenses, the police said.
He was charged with suspected second-degree murder and gun misconduct, and was also wanted for a crime warrant issued just over a week before the shooting, the station reported.
Richardson played for the Bears from 1983 to 1988 and was part of the winning team for Super Bowl XX in 1985. He also appeared in the famous video “Super Bowl Shuffle”.
Published reports noted that Richardson played 88 games for Bears and was an All-Pro in 1986.
He also faced a 13-year prison sentence after his 21st drug conviction in 2008, but ended up serving only a year after former Bears coach Mike Ditka expressed his support at the trial, reports said.
Richardson also appeared in the famous video “Super Bowl Shuffle” after the Bears won the Super Bowl.
