Mike Madigan’s replacement, Edward Guerra Kodatt, resigns after just 3 days

CHICAGO (WLS) – The replacement for former Illinois Mayor Mike Madigan for his seat on the House resigned after just three days in office.

Edward Guerra Kodatt, 26, just took office as a representative for the 22nd District of Illinois on Sunday.

The mayor’s office, Chris Welch, confirmed that the mayor’s secretary had received Kodatt’s resignation.

The resignation comes a day after Madigan and Chicago city councilor Marty Quinn issued a statement that said: “After hearing about Mr. Kodatt’s alleged questionable conduct, it was suggested that he resign as state representative in the 22nd District. We are committed to a zero-tolerance policy in the workplace.”

Kodatt of Garfield Ridge is a native of the Southwest Side and has lived in the 22nd District his entire life. A fluent Spanish speaker, Kodatt grew up in West Lawn and Garfield Ridge, studied in St. Turibius and St. Daniel for primary school and graduated from high school in St. Rita. Kodatt holds a bachelor’s degree in business from Eastern Illinois University and currently holds a master’s degree in online business administration from the University of Kansas. Kodatt is engaged to Vanessa Ramirez.

Kodatt has worked at Madigan-Quinn Service Office since 2017, contributing to various projects and issues and eventually worked on campaigns for the Democratic House. Over the years, Kodatt has worked on campaigns for Senator Karina Villa, Congresswoman Lance Yednock and Congresswoman Jennifer Gong-Gershowitz, to name a few.

Madigan, who was instrumental in the nomination of Kodattt, does not go into details about what this alleged questionable conduct could be and did not comment further, nor did Alderman Quinn.

Madigan recently stepped down as president of the Illinois Democratic Party less than a week after he resigned from the Illinois home after being involved in a bribery scandal involving ComEd.

He has not been charged with any crime and denies any wrongdoing.

Kodatt has not yet responded to requests for comment.
