American football coach Jim Harbaugh promised big changes to the team and now he has hired Mike Hart.
Jim Harbaugh has yet to make any special signings this season, but that changed on Wednesday when the Michigan football coach hired former great Wolverine Mike Hart.
Hart, who was the associate head coach and running back trainer in Indiana, was offered the job by Harbaugh and Jamie Morris, another former Michigan running back and radio host for The M Zone first reported the news that Hart accepted.
Sam Webb of Michigan Insider then said that he had confirmed Hart’s hiring with Jim Harbaugh, so it’s a closed deal and a reason for Michigan fans to celebrate.
Hart is obviously one of the most decorated players in history and is the greatest rusher of all time in school, but that is not why Michigan football fans should be excited about this change.
From his time in Eastern Michigan and Syracuse to the last four years he spent on the team in Indiana, Hart has proven that he can develop running backs and that he is also a very talented recruiter.
According to the official statement from the University of Michigan, Hart is entering as a running back coach. It does not say whether he will work to coordinate the attack or whether he will be an associate coach as in Indiana, but his excitement is clear. Here’s what he said:
“Michigan has always had a special place in my heart. It is a place that has always believed in me and in which I have always believed. I’m excited to be joining Jim Harbaugh and the Michigan team and can’t wait to start working with a talented running back group. ”
Hart’s impact with Michigan
To start, Hart should immediately help a running back room that was disappointing last season, but is full of talent.
The Wolverines have two best recruits in Zach Charbonnet and Donovan Edwards, who just signed with the Wolverines last month, as well as Blake Corum and Hassan Haskins, the leader of the rusher a year ago.
Hart also proved to be a really talented recruiter and was never able to recruit for a school like Michigan, which even with Harbaugh routinely assembled the top 15 classes.
Hart may not be a co-offensive coordinator, but he will have a positive impact on this program in a number of ways, and you should give credit to Harbaugh for winning him.
