Mike Evans goes over 1,000 yards and then hurts his knee

USA TODAY Sports

Mike Evans advanced more than 1,000 yards for the seventh consecutive season, but his day was probably over.

Buccaneers have to hope their season doesn’t end after a frightening injury in the end zone. Evans was helped out of the field and taken to the locker room.

He set an NFL record, breaking a tie with Randy Moss, in his third reception, which gave him 46 yards. Evans entered the day with 67 receptions for 960 yards and a team record in a single season of 13 touchdowns.

No player before Evans had opened a career with seven consecutive 1,000-yard seasons.

But on the next move after his 20-yard win, Evans opened in the end zone and, with the pass behind him, Evans tried to reach him. Evans left a skid mark in the end zone when his knee seemed to bend.

Evans immediately grabbed his left knee.

The Outback Bowl was played at the stadium on Saturday.

The Buccaneers led 10-3.
