Bryan Harsin is a stranger to the SEC, so he is hiring one of the best-known offensive coaches at the conference for his first team at Auburn.
South Carolina Mike Bobo agreed Thursday to become Tigers’ new offensive coordinator and defender coach, sources close to the situation told Auburn Undercover. An official announcement is expected from the school today.
Bobo replaces Chad Morris after the former Arkansas head coach had been on Auburn’s team for just over a year. Bobo spent a season as an offensive coordinator for Gamecocks before serving as interim head coach after Will Muschamp.
South Carolina announced earlier this week an extension of the contract for Bobo to remain in Gamecocks’ new head coach Shane Beamerstaff of. The deal lasted until 2022 at $ 1.2 million a year. It is not clear whether Bobo signed the extension and whether he owes a larger acquisition to South Carolina because of that.
Bobo also brings the South Carolina offensive line manager Will be friend with him to Auburn.
A quarterback in Georgia in the late 1990s, Bobo coached the Bulldogs’ quarterbacks from 2001-06 before being promoted to offensive coordinator, a position he held in Athens from 2007-14. In addition to being a highly regarded QB trainer and offensive mind, Bobo recruited some of the best candidates in the SEC, as five stars Matthew Stafford, Aaron Murray, Sony michel and Nick Chubb, among others.
In 2012, when Georgia was just a few games away from participating in the BCS national championship, Bobo took home the Broyles Award for best assistant coach in college football.
