Few are jealous of Megan Anderson less than 24 hours from their UFC 259 title shot against Amanda Nunes. It’s a great opportunity for sure, but Nunes is a notable 10-1 favorite over the Australian, and “Lioness” doesn’t usually win for anything less than a punitive smackdown.
In a conversation with Jim Rome, UFC President Dana White explained that (stop me if you’ve heard this before) Nunes is better than ever and has been hitting his training partners.
“She’s one of my favorites of all time,” said White (via MMAFighting). “She doesn’t care who she is fighting with, she will fight anyone. One of the sweetest people you’ve ever met, very, very easy going, but once she steps into the octagon, she is an absolute savage. What’s scary about her now is Dan Lambert, the guy who runs her team, is saying that he doesn’t understand why, but she looks better than ever at this camp, and she was leaving guys at the camp. So, this is going to be interesting.
“I think that [Nunes is] the greatest female fighter of all time, ”said White. “Personally, I love you. She is a great human being. She is the only one who has kept two titles and has consistently defended both titles.
At the same time, White was not counting on the challenger entirely, as he praised his own finishing ability and punching power. The Australian’s last two wins come via submission, and she may need one against Nunes.
“She is defending her 145-pound title against Megan Anderson, who has had nine of her 11 wins by submission. [Anderson has] got six knockouts, three submissions – you’ll have some girls who are very talented, very technical, but don’t have the power to knock out another woman. Both women have incredible power and both can knock each other out, which makes this fight a very, very incredible fight. “

Midnight Music: Everyone has some classic albums that they just didn’t hear in full. I checked Cracked Rear View off my list – unsurprisingly, most of the songs on the 19th best-selling album were already at least somewhat familiar to me.
