Mach-E is the ’21st century representation of what a Mustang should be’

One of the first editions of the 2021 Mustang Mach-E – Ford’s first all-electric Mustang – arrived in Midland this week, with a local customer already taking it off the lot.

Chris Light, a longtime customer at Midland Ford Lincoln in Midland, said he ordered the Mach-E First Edition a year ago. Although Ford did not say exactly how many first editions were made, it was reported that there is a limit of 50,000 for the first 12 months, globally, explained sales consultant Mark Lawson.

Light and his wife Jackie Light already own a 2019 Mustang GT convertible. 5.0L V8 and we have owned hybrids in the past. However, they joke that the Mach-E will now offset the carbon emissions of Chris’s other Mustang.

“It is really a question of long-term climate change and balance of the situation. This is a lot of fun – it’s full power therapy, ”said Chris of his GT. “But at the end of the day, you have to do the right thing overall.”

As Chris explained, he was attracted to Mach-E, unlike other electric vehicles, for its accessibility and logical characteristics. He said he hopes to “become one” with his new vehicle on the road.

“It is the 21st century representation of what a Mustang should be and where it is going. And it’s beautiful, ”said Chris.

He explained that if the vehicle had a different or new identification plate, he would not have the same confidence when buying it. The fact that Ford used one of its most iconic nameplates on its new electric vehicle meant for Chris that he was here to stay; that Ford was making a serious investment in it.

The Mustang nameplate can be seen on the Mach-E’s taillights and the unmistakable emblem; however, the vehicle itself is an SUV that looks very different from previous Mustangs. Although, the vehicle has 346 horsepower and 428 lb-ft of torque.

“This has a flare; that has a history, ”said Lawson of Mach-E.

And although Lawson already has a Mach-E sale on his resume, he hopes it is far from the last.

“This thing is going to sell like crazy,” he said.

The first edition of Mach-E has a low price of $ 50,000, has four-wheel drive and an extended-range battery that can travel about 270 miles on a single charge. The four-door vehicle features red-painted brake calipers, metal pedal covers, contrasting seat seams and a protective plate marked First Edition.

It is Ford’s only all-electric vehicle in production, as the Focus Electric was retired in 2013 and, by comparison, had only a battery life of around 80 miles. Mach-E can connect to the largest electric vehicle charging network in the world, and is a vehicle with zero emissions, which means that it does not release any type of waste, like a traditional engine.

Unlike the similar Telsa Model Y, Mach-E is eligible for a federal tax credit.

Under the hood, you won’t find a gas engine, of course, but extra storage. The vehicle also has an “infotainment” system and a panoramic roof.
