Windows 10X, a special version of Windows 10, was originally designed for foldable PCs like the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Fold. However, due to COVID-19 dramatically increasing demand for traditional laptops and PCs, Windows has shifted its focus to bringing Windows 10X to single-screen PCs. Thanks to a new leak, we can take a first look at what it will be like.
From Windows Central Zac Bowden on Wednesday, he shared an image of what he claims to be Windows 10X for single-screen PCs. The image appears to show the software’s Start menu and a center-aligned taskbar with large icons that look very easy to touch. The taskbar also features shortcuts to Microsoft Edge, Files, Outlook and spaces.

Meanwhile, the Start menu includes all kinds of shortcuts, from useful productivity tools to services like Microsoft Teams, Skype and Spotify. The last of which is not a UWP (Universal Windows Platform) application, so it can be a Progressive Web App (PWA) that has been fixed. Apparently, the Start Menu does not support folders, but will show applications and websites, according to the image.

In addition to the image shared by Bowden, Alumia Italia shared what is supposed to be the Windows 10X boot animation. The animation apparently comes from Windows 10X | Version 20279.1002. More leaks are being promised, so we may soon have a much better idea of what Windows 10X will look like on single-screen PCs.
The arrival of Windows 10X can shake business and education circles, offering access to Microsoft’s best-known services, while introducing things like instant activation and access to UWP and PWAs applications. The first devices equipped with Windows 10X are expected to arrive in the spring of 2021, so it may not be long before we see the software fully functioning.
For now, let’s keep our eyes open for any leaks that are sure to occur in the coming days and weeks.
