Microsoft’s Edge browser will match Chrome’s next four-week release cycle

Microsoft will adjust its release cycles for Microsoft Edge to match the release rate every four weeks for Chrome that Google announced last week.

“As contributors to the Chromium project, we look forward to the new 4-week main release cycle that Google announced to help deliver this innovation to our customers even faster,” said Microsoft in a blog on Friday.

The change will take effect with the Edge 94, which is due to be released in September. Google pledged to make the switch with Chrome in the third quarter with Chrome 94, but did not report a specific month as Microsoft gave.

Like Google, Microsoft is also offering companies the option of longer-release business customers. In this Extended Stable schedule, there will be a new release every eight weeks. However, a four-week cadence will be the default, says Microsoft.

Edge is not the only Chromium-based browser that switches to a four-week release cycle; Brave said The Verge on March 5 it plans to adjust to the new schedule as well.
