Microsoft will combine Chrome with more frequent Edge updates

will switch to a four-week release cycle for stable builds later this year. She plans to switch to that schedule from Edge 94, which in September.

Earlier this month, Google said Chrome would switch to this cycle with Chrome 94 (which is expected to drop in the third quarter) as part of an effort to launch new features more quickly. At the moment, stable builds of Chrome appear every six weeks or more. Chrome and Edge are both, so it makes sense for Microsoft to adopt the same schedule.

Microsoft that the four-week cycle may not be ideal for everyone. Corporate customers will have an Extended Stable option, through which Microsoft will release major Edge updates every eight weeks. It will also provide biweekly security updates for those who choose this option. Google will offer a similar Extended Stable option to its corporate customers.

The next schedule change will bring Edge and Chrome in line with Firefox. That browser adopted a four-week release cycle in early 2020.
