Microsoft starts testing Xbox cloud games on the web

You don’t have to ask yourself what Xbox cloud games are like on the web. The Verge I heard that Microsoft has started testing streaming games from xCloud in browsers and the experience will look familiar if you’ve tried it on Android devices. A simple launcher helps you activate recent games and find new ones to play with your (necessary) Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription.

Testers need a controller to play Xbox games, and testing is currently limited to Chromium-based browsers, such as Chrome or Microsoft Edge. It may take a while before you know what the experience on an iOS device is like. It is also unclear what resolution Microsoft is using for the game, although it is unlikely to be 4K when the company is upgrading its cloud infrastructure to Xbox Series X hardware in late 2021.

This is a closed test for now, although Microsoft has promised to make streaming for iOS and PC available on the web in the spring. The test suggests that the tech giant is on the right track. Suffice to say that this will be an important expansion. The goal of Microsoft’s cloud games is to make Xbox titles available wherever you want, and a browser option could make the service much more accessible – and help justify that $ 15 monthly fee.
