Microsoft starts testing Child Mode on its Edge browser

Microsoft has started testing Kids Mode on its Edge browser to help protect children as they browse the web. The company, which created the mode primarily for children ages 5 to 12, is launching it for Edge Insiders testers on the Dev and Canary channels.

You can enable Child Mode via the Edge profile selector and you will not need to set up a child account to turn it on Windows Central points. Users will need to enter a password to exit mode. You can set up a “whitelist” of websites that your children can access and edit over time. If there is a website that your children want to visit and Microsoft technology is blocking it, you can add an exception, as long as you are happy to let them browse it.

Child Mode uses Bing SafeSearch with strict crawl prevention and offers customized browser themes. Microsoft plans to continue to improve Kids Mode by adding more features.

Many other products and services offer child-friendly modes. With kids perhaps using their computers more often while attending school remotely, a Kids Mode on the browser is sure to be good news for parents who want more peace of mind.
