Microsoft shows new Windows 10 File Explorer icons

The latest version of Windows 10 Insider Preview includes the latest batch of redesigned folders for the platform. Microsoft has released new icons for its Office suite reflecting its move to the cloud in 2019, and has been releasing updated icons for major Windows 10 apps (such as Calendar and Mail) since then. The latest batch of icons changes the appearance of the folders you’ll find in File Explorer, including top-level user folders like Desktop, Documents, Downloads and Images.

Microsoft has changed the orientation of folders to get more consistency on Windows 10. Meanwhile, the new designs have been created to make them easier to distinguish in the blink of an eye – no more than several yellow folders to choose from. The tech giant has also updated the Recycle Bin and Local Disk icons so that they are facing forward instead of sideways. Microsoft says it will continue to release new Windows 10 icons over time for a more cohesive look.

The company also introduced some changes with the most recent version of Preview. He renamed the Windows Administrative Tools folder in Start for Windows Tools and added support for new shortcuts when renaming files: CTRL + left / right arrow moves the cursor between words in the file name, while CTRL + Delete and CTRL + Backspace can delete words at once. The new version of Preview, which also comes with a long list of fixes for bugs and known issues, is now available to Windows Insiders on the Dev Channel.
