Microsoft has come up with a patent to create chatbots that can mimic the personality of a specific person. The tech giant received permission for the patent earlier this month, after initially applying for a license in 2017.

Microsoft’s goal is to create artificial intelligence generated from individual personalities, dead or alive, based on social media data, electronic messages and other forms of personal information. The company plans to use images and video data to make its avatars more realistic.

Several startups are already working on technology capable of creating 3D holograms.

“Our software allows simultaneous capture of multiple people in different locations in real time,” said Javier Bello, founder and CEO of Imverse. “This capture can be integrated with games, teleconferencing applications, educational platforms, which are built with standard 3D content creation software.”

Bello added that technology companies have shown great interest in software, as it can be applied in the areas of education, telehealth and entertainment.
