Microsoft launches a multiplatform password auto-complete feature

Microsoft has released a major update to its Authenticator application, which offers the ability to automatically fill in logins with your usernames and passwords. The tech giant has launched a new autocomplete feature that works across devices and platforms, and is bringing it to iOS and Android devices through its Authenticator app.

This means that you will be able to access all credentials stored on the Edge in your Microsoft account on your mobile phone – you just need to go to the Authenticator Passwords tab and log in first. After Authenticator finishes synchronizing, it will offer to automatically fill in your password when you open an application or visit a website, as long as you have saved your login for them.

Microsoft has also introduced an autofill extension for the Google browser, in case you mainly save your passwords in Edge, but want to use them in Chrome. The feature works just like Chrome’s built-in autocomplete feature, and you can still edit or delete your logins within Chrome instead of having to go through Edge first. If you remember, the company released a preview of these features in December, but they are now officially available.

In addition to launching cross-platform autocomplete features, the Microsoft Authenticator update gives the app the power to import passwords from Chrome, some popular password managers and CSV files. The company says it is safe to use the app as a kind of password manager, as Authenticator requires multi-factor authentication. Your credentials will also be encrypted. In addition, you will have to use your biometric information or enter your PIN before Authenticator automatically populates any application or website you visit.
