Today brought good news for those who like to fly military jets in Microsoft Flight Simulator.

Third-party developer DC Designs has provided an update on the progress of its F-15 Eagle add-on package (from which you can read our review) [sources 1,2].

First, let’s take a look at a cold, dark departure for the aircraft, which will be fixed and improved with a major update next week.

Second, we hear what this update will entail in detail, including a new sound package.

“Today’s update is slightly smaller than normal, as I am in the middle of preparing for update # 2 of the F-15, which will now be released at the end of next week. The reason for this is that the new custom sound package is already well underway and it makes sense to include it in a single major update, instead of requiring everyone to re-download the aircraft twice a week.

The update fixes a number of bugs and also includes improved features, such as a much better navigation package with a now fully functional HSI on the F-15C and D Eagles, and other improvements, such as increased visibility of canopy scratches and imperfections, tinted glass breeze for better visibility of the HUD in clear conditions (according to the actual aircraft), ice effects and so on. A HUD on / off button has also been included for all Eagle variants for those who prefer to use one, while the JFS-Starter lever is also included and will be linked to a sim function to ensure it has a purpose.

The cold and dark startup problem has now been solved (all due to the new .flt files not mixing properly with the engine and the aerodynamic files) and I attached a short video to show the excellent work of Sim Acoustics which includes switch noise and , of course, sound attenuation when the canopy is closed (the JFS Starter sound is not yet included, as we are still implementing code for this).

ILS and other NAV functions now also work correctly. ETA: the cabin light flicker problem has also been fixed for all aircraft. “

We can also see an image of an ILS approach, on top of a provocation from the cabin of the next F-14 Tomcat.

A few days ago, we published our massive interview with Microsoft Flight Simulator boss Jorg Neumann, who provided a lot of new information about the present and the future of the sim.
