Microsoft Edge is updated with many new features and themes

Microsoft has unveiled a major update to its Edge browser, introducing new features that include sleeping guides, new themes and performance improvements. The latest features arrive a year after the release of the version of Microsoft Edge with Chromium.

Probably the most interesting feature from the consumer’s point of view is the introduction of new themes in Edge. Microsoft said it created 24 new themes, giving users many options to personalize the browser experience. Some of the themes come directly from the Xbox, including Halo, Gears, Forza, Microsoft Flight Simulator, Sea of Thieves and more.

Themes apply a new background to the new tab page, while tabs, the address bar, and other parts of the browser also take on the theme’s appearance. Support is also available for vertical guides on the Dev channel, which the company recently tested.

Speaking of design, Microsoft is incorporating more elements of its Fluent design system into the Edge, starting with browser icons, which now assume a more rounded and smoother appearance. Microsoft said it plans to bring more of its Fluent design system to more of its products, but has not shared details.

The next thing people will notice about Edge is the drop-down tabs. Microsoft said the feature will increase browser performance by improving the use of memory and CPU resources. “When you have multiple tabs open, it will free up system resources for inactive tabs to help feed new or existing tabs, as well as other applications, avoiding slowness and slowness.”

Microsoft is also launching new password manager features for Edge. One of the features is a password generator. The new one will automatically suggest a secure password when you sign up for a new online account or change an existing password. The password generator arrives before other security features, including a password monitor, that will tell you if one of your passwords is part of a list of credentials leaked on the dark web.

In terms of enhanced privacy, Microsoft said Edge will include extra transparency to help users manage specific site permissions. Users will be able to control which sites you share the location, camera and microphone access to. You can also review, edit and reset the site’s permissions if you change your mind.

These features are part of a much larger update to Edge, which is also rolling out tab history and syncing for all users. The feature was previously made available to some countries earlier this month.
