As the name suggests, FPS Boost improves the frames per second performance of each of these games on the newest and most powerful Xbox Series X / S consoles. Microsoft notes that it chose these first five games because they are popular and show the range of improvements available. New Super Lucky’s Tale was pushed to 120fps, while UFC 4 was specifically adapted to run at 60fps on Xbox Series S.For players who prefer to try these games in their original format with lower frame rates, FPS Boost can be enabled and disabled. This is similar to how another Xbox-compatible technology, Auto HDR, works. A new menu of compatibility options will be added to allow you to switch between these two technologies.
These FPS Boost performance improvements come from the Microsoft Xbox team instead of the original game development teams, so there is no need for further studio development. They are applied via patches as well as a developer title update, however, if you want to play any of these five games with FPS Boost, make sure your Xbox Series X / S has updated them to the latest version.
Last year, Phil Spencer said the frame rate is more important than the resolution. Since these games are backward compatible with the Xbox One generation, this is your chance to get the frame rate and resolution. To learn more about backward compatibility, check our list of all previous generation Xbox games that can be played on the Xbox Series X / S.
