Microsoft 365 outage brings down Teams, Exchange Online

Office 365

An outage in Azure Active Directory is preventing users from logging in to Microsoft 365, Microsoft Teams, Exchange Online, Forms, Xbox Live and Yammer.

Starting at approximately 15:34 EST, users began to report that they were unable to log into their Microsoft 365, Microsoft Teams accounts or access other Microsoft applications.

The outage is also affecting Microsoft sites, such as the Technological Community site, as users are unable to log in to the site.

“As a result of the issues currently facing Azure AAD, we are experiencing problems in the Microsoft Technology Community with login and authentication. This will result in users unable to log in and users already logged in receiving unexpected errors such as session timeouts,” posted a manager from the Microsoft technology community.

Microsoft acknowledged the disruption in the Microsoft 365 incident report MO244568, which states that the disruption initially impacted Microsoft Teams, but is now affecting other services.

“Initial reports indicate that the primary impact is for Microsoft Teams; however, other services, including Exchange Online and Yammer, are also affected.”

“We are investigating a potential issue and checking the impact on your organization. We will provide an update in 30 minutes,” says the outage report.

The widespread disruptions affected by Microsoft online services are actually the result of an Azure Active Directory issue that is preventing users from authenticating to Microsoft 365, Exchange, Online and Teams outages.

“Starting at approximately 19:15 UTC on March 15, 2021, a subset of customers may experience authentication problems with Microsoft services, including Microsoft Teams, Office and / or Dynamics, Xbox Live and Azure Portal,” says the page Azure status.

Microsoft is sharing updates on its Microsoft 365 status Twitter account, with the latest update stating that the outage is caused by a change in your authentication system.

Based on user reports, this appears to be a worldwide outage.
