East Lansing, Michigan – The Michigan state men’s basketball game in Iowa on January 14 was postponed due to problems with COVID-19 in the MSU men’s basketball program after an additional positive test on Wednesday afternoon.
Schools will work with the Big Ten Conference to identify options for rescheduling competitions. No final decision was made in the games after January 14th.
“I am very disappointed, but it just proves that it can affect anyone”, head coach of MSU Tom Izzo said. “I feel so comfortable that I, my son and my players have done everything possible and followed each protocol as best as we could. I am very, very impressed with the way they behaved. This virus does not discriminate and I cannot emphasize enough the importance of wearing a mask, washing my hands and following the protocols. “
For individuals with a positive test, daily check-ins with the sports training team will continue as long as the individuals remain isolated, with additional services provided as directed by the medical and administrative teams. More testing and medical follow-up will be needed before returning to any level of exercise. According to Big Ten protocols, any student-athlete with a positive test for COVID-19 must remain away for 17 days.
