Michigan reports 5,498 new cases of COVID-19 and 20 deaths on Friday

The Michigan State Department of Health reported 5,498 new cases of COVID-19 and 20 deaths on Friday.

Michigan now has a total of 683,793 confirmed cases and 16,161 deaths since March.

In the state’s latest vaccine update, 82,148 doses were administered in Michigan on Wednesday. The seven-day average for doses administered is 75,273. On Wednesday, Governor Gretchen Whitmer raised the state’s target for daily vaccinations from 50,000 to 100,000 per day. Of the population aged 16 or over, 20.8% are fully vaccinated, with a target of 70% vaccinated by the end of the year.

Michigan had a positivity rate of 14.52% Thursday, reporting that 5,504 of the 37,401 diagnostic test results were positive.

The state has a lethality of 2.4% among known cases, according to data from the state health department.

Michigan reports 75,807 probable cases of COVID-19 and 1,033 probable deaths on Friday. The probable cases combined with the confirmed cases make a total of 759,600 cases and 17,194 deaths.
