Michigan health officials reported a two-day total of 4,536 new cases of coronavirus and 47 new deaths on Monday, January 11, after a pause in COVID-19 data on Sunday.
The state recorded an average of 3,071 new cases per day in the past week, compared with 3,631 three weeks ago. Likewise, it is reporting 103 new deaths per day for the past seven days, compared with 111 three weeks ago.
Since the start of the pandemic, Michigan has reported 234,618 confirmed cases and 13,401 confirmed deaths, according to data from the Department of Health and Human Services. It also tracked 43,064 probable cases and 791 probable deaths that were not confirmed by a CRP test.

Seventy-seven of 83 counties reported new cases on Monday, led by Wayne with 906, Oakland with 583 and Macomb with 378. Other counties in the top 10 included Kent (356), Genesee (172), Washtenaw (158), Ottawa (156), Saginaw (139), Livingston (121) and Kalamazoo (111).
26 counties reported new deaths from COVID-19, including Wayne and Macomb with five each, and Eaton with four. Saginaw and Monroe counties added three deaths each, while Kent, Genesee, Kalamazoo, Ingham, Tuscola, Shiawassee, Isabella and Gratiot counties each had two deaths.

There were 2,396 hospitalized patients with confirmed or suspected cases of COVID-19 on Monday – a decline from 2,480 Friday admissions. Of these patients, 485 are admitted to the ICU and 272 on ventilators.
Of the 40,334 diagnostic tests processed on Sunday, 7.96% tested positive for COVID-19. The total number of tests increased from the seven-day average (34,100 tests per day), while Sunday’s positivity rate fell from 9.9% the previous week.
Below is a chart showing new cases in the last month based on the onset of symptoms. The numbers for the most recent days are incomplete due to the time interval between people getting sick and getting the result of the confirmed coronavirus test, which can take up to a week or more.
