Michigan reported 2,706 new cases of coronavirus and 222 deaths on Saturday, January 9, although all but 15 deaths occurred due to the review of death certificates.
Among the deaths, 207 were from a review of vital records. The state routinely adds deaths from vital record checks to daily totals, warning when it happens.
Michigan has now reported 519,082 cases of coronavirus since the pandemic began in March and 13,354 deaths.
The percentage of positive tests has been decreasing in the past few days and stood at 8.27 percent on Friday. The state received results from 51,995 exams.
The positivity rate was about 10.5 percent on January 5.
The latest hospital data shows 2,452 people in Michigan hospitals with confirmed or suspected COVID-19, compared to the previous day’s total of 2,480 people and the nearly 2,700 patients in hospitals earlier in the week.
Of those in the hospital, 517 adults are in intensive care units and 294 people are on ventilators.
The latest data on recoveries shows that, as of Friday, 415,079 people have recovered.
A recovery is defined as someone who is still alive 30 days after the onset of COVID-19 symptoms.
