Michigan reported 1,193 new cases of coronavirus and 23 new deaths on Friday, February 19.
This is the largest daily new case report since February 12, when the state reported the same total.
The state has an average of 845 new cases of COVID-19 per day and 33 new deaths per day in the past week. This is the lowest weekly average for cases since 2 October.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, Michigan has reported 579,284 confirmed cases and 15,296 deaths caused by COVID-19. In addition, the state reported 56,162 probable cases and 978 probable deaths, which occur when a physician and / or antigen test determined COVID-19, but no confirmatory PCR testing has been done.

Sixty-eight of Michigan’s 83 counties reported new cases on Friday. Wayne County led in new coronavirus cases and deaths, with 176 and 5, respectively.
Other counties with important reports include Oakland with 128, Macomb with 106, Washtenaw with 92, Kent with 88, Kalamazoo with 46, Ingham and Genesee with 38 each, Ottawa with 30 and Eaton with 27 new cases.
Ingham County reported four new deaths, while Washtenaw, Eaton and Saginaw reported three each. Macomb, Jackson, Lenawee, Tuscola, Emmet and Chippewa each reported a new death.

Hospitals across the state were treating 843 patients with confirmed or suspected cases of COVID-19 on Friday, including 217 patients in the ICU. This decreased compared to February 12, when hospitals were treating 1,013 patients, 293 in the ICU.
Of the 35,591 diagnostic tests processed Thursday, 2.98% tested positive for SARS-CoV-2. The positivity rate remained below 3% for two days.
As of Thursday, Michigan had administered more than 1.78 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine. This includes about 1.19 million first doses and 594,450 second doses. The Moderna and Pfizer vaccines recommend two doses given weeks apart.

The first is a graph showing new cases reported to the state each day for the past 30 days. This is based on when a confirmed coronavirus test is reported to the state, which means that the patient first became ill days before.

(In some cases, a county reported a negative number (decline) in new daily cases, after a retroactive reclassification by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services. In those cases, we subtract cases from the previous date and put 0 on the reported date.)
The next graph below shows new cases in the last 30 days based on the onset of symptoms. In this graph, the numbers for the most recent days are incomplete due to the time lag between people getting sick and getting a result of the confirmed coronavirus test, which can take up to a week or more.
