Michigan reports 1,156 new coronavirus cases and 68 deaths

Michigan health officials reported 1,156 new cases of coronavirus and 68 deaths on Saturday, February 27.

The deaths included 62 identified through a routine check of death certificates, any of which may not have occurred in the last 24 hours.

The percentage of positive cases, compared to general tests, has remained reasonably stable in the past few days. On Friday, the rate was 3.38% based on 35,949 tests.

State health leaders said a rate of less than 3 percent is a good indicator that the spread of the virus is under control.

As of Saturday, the state had recorded 587,581 COVID-19 cases and 15,522 deaths.

The state reports statistics on coronavirus recoveries once a week.

As of Friday, there were 541,258 recoveries. A recovery is considered to be someone who is still alive 30 days after the onset of COVID-19 symptoms.

The latest hospitalization data shows 824 people in Michigan hospitals with suspected or confirmed COVID-19 and 195 people in intensive care units. About a week ago, on February 19, there were 843 patients in total, 217 in the ICU.

Until Friday, 2.13 million doses of vaccine against the coronavirus had been administered. This includes about 1.36 million first doses and 774,000 second doses.

Pfizer and Moderna recommend two doses of vaccine given weeks apart.
