Up to 246 Michigan residents who were “fully vaccinated” against COVID-19 later tested positive for the deadly virus – including three who died, according to a new report.
The group – whose cases were reported between January 1 and March 31 – tested positive at least two weeks after receiving the last dose of the vaccine, a health official told Detroit News.
“Some of these individuals may be excluded from this list because they continue to show positive results in a recent infection before they are fully vaccinated,” said Lynn Sutfin, spokeswoman for the state’s Department of Health and Human Services, via email Monday. market.
“These cases are undergoing further review to determine whether they meet other CDC criteria for determining potential discovery, including the absence of a positive antigen or CRP test less than 45 days before the positive post-vaccination test,” he said Sutfin.

“In general, these people are more likely to be asymptomatic or slightly symptomatic compared to vaccinated people,” she said, adding that hospitalization data was available for 117 of the cases, while 129 were incomplete.
“Of the 117 with hospitalization data entered, 11 were hospitalized, 103 were not hospitalized and three are reported as unknown,” said Sutfin.
The three people who died were 65 or older and two “were three weeks after the vaccination ended,” she said.
“Although the majority of the population develops full immunity within 14 days of completing their vaccine series, a small proportion seems to take longer to mount a complete antibody response. The CDC is actively working to better understand the risk characteristics of this group, ”she added.
