According to the CDC, the largest number of variant cases have been detected in Michigan and Florida. According to the MDHHS, the largest number of the UK’s B117 variant was found in the most densely populated areas.

More than half of the B117 variants identified were from an outbreak in the Michigan Department of Corrections. That is another reason why Michigan has more cases identified.

Variant B117 has been found in 31 Michigan counties, it is safe to assume that it is widespread in the community. The concern now is that this may be part of the increase in cases that Michigan is currently seeing.

Other variants are being monitored, but so far only one case of the South African variant B1351 has been found in Michigan.

So far, vaccines appear to be effective against variants.
