Michigan coronavirus cases up to 624,811; Death toll now at 15,897

The number of confirmed coronavirus (COVID-19) cases in Michigan rose to 624,811 on Saturday, including 15,897 deaths, state officials reported.

Saturday’s update includes a total of 2,660 new COVID-19 cases and 47 additional deaths. The deaths announced on Saturday include 39 deaths identified during a Vital Records review, meaning they did not occur on Friday or Saturday.

On Friday, the state reported a total of 622,151 cases and an additional 15,850 deaths.

On Saturday, a total of 562,775 recovered from COVID-19 in Michigan.

The test has been stable at around 35,000 diagnostic tests reported per day on average, with the 7-day positive rate above 6% on Thursday. The state has reported a slight increase in hospitalizations in the past three weeks.

Michigan’s 7-day moving average for daily cases was 2,149 on Thursday – the highest since early January. The 7-day death toll averaged 16 on Thursday and has been stable for several weeks. The state’s mortality rate is 2.6%. The state also reports “active cases”, which were listed at 45,900 on Thursday – close to the lowest level since October.

Michigan reported more than 3.3 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine administered, until Wednesday, with 25.6% of residents having received at least one dose.

According to Johns Hopkins University, more than 29.7 million cases have been reported in the USA., Over 541,000 deaths reported from the virus.

Worldwide, more than 122 million people were confirmed infected and more than 2.7 million died. More than 69 million recovered, according to Johns Hopkins University. The real numbers are certainly much higher, due to limited testing, the different ways in which nations count the dead and the deliberate underreporting of some governments.
