Michigan coronavirus cases continue to rise, reaching 8,413 on Saturday, April 3

Daily coronavirus cases in Michigan continue to rise and reached 8,413 cases on Saturday, a recent one-day record.

The figures appear to validate the concerns of state and local health leaders about another increase in COVID-19 cases.

Data on Saturday, April 3, also show 57 new deaths. Of these, 51 were identified through routine verification of death certificates and did not necessarily occur in the last 24 hours.

Along with the increasing number of cases, the rate of positive cases is also on an upward trend. On Friday, the rate of positive cases compared to all diagnostic tests administered was 17.6 percent, according to the state panel.

The test sites sent 48,307 tests on Friday.

Health officials recommend a positive test rate of less than 5% to keep schools and communities open.

Michigan reports data on coronavirus recoveries once a week. On Friday, 577,141 people recovered.

A recovery is considered to be someone who is still alive 30 days after the onset of COVID-19 symptoms.

Michigan now has a total of 692,206 cases of coronavirus since the pandemic began in March 2020. There were also 16,218 deaths.

The latest hospital statistics show 2,766 people with suspected or confirmed COVID-19 in Michigan hospitals, up from 1,294 patients on March 18. There are 539 adults with suspected or confirmed coronavirus in intensive care units, compared to 294 patients on March 18.

Vaccine data show that 4.5 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine were administered by April 1. That includes. 2.87 million first doses and 1.65 million second doses.

The Pfizer and Moderna vaccines require two doses, while the Johnson & Johnson injection needs only one dose for maximum effectiveness.

According to a state vaccine panel, just over 35% of the vaccine-eligible population in Michigan has been vaccinated. Only residents 16 years of age or older can be vaccinated.
