Several hours after Facebook announced it would block President Trump from making new posts until the day of his inauguration, at least former First Lady Michelle Obama has asked social media platforms to ban him from their platforms permanently.

“Now is the time for Silicon Valley companies to stop allowing this monstrous behavior – and go even further than they did, permanently banning this man from their platforms and implementing policies to prevent their technology from being used by the country’s leaders. to fuel the insurrection, “said Michelle Obama in a note posted on Twitter on Thursday.

Her post addressed many issues, including the stark contrast between how protesters were treated on Capitol Hill Wednesday and the violence that Black Lives Matters protesters experienced during the summer, and said she prays that Americans give President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris a chance.

Until yesterday, Trump had received a free pass mainly through Twitter, Facebook, Google’s YouTube and other social networks, which allowed him to freely post lies and conspiracy theories during his presidency, sometimes just signaling that they presented contested information.

Facebook’s move to block Trump followed a day of gradual escalation of restrictions on his activity as protesters, spurred on by unfounded allegations of Trump electoral fraud that invaded the Capitol and occupied offices there.

In addition, Twitter temporarily suspended Trump’s account on Wednesday, and Google’s YouTube on Thursday imposed new restrictions on channels that post videos with false electoral allegations.
