Carson Wentz has a new team, and now he will have a new shirt number too.
Wentz, who was traded to the Indianapolis Colts last week, wore the number 11 with the Philadelphia Eagles, and has worn that number since his college days in North Dakota. When a player known as Wentz joins a new team, securing the same shirt number is often a priority. Colts number 11 belongs to wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr., and Wentz discovered shortly after the switch that Pittman was not willing to give up – not even for the team’s new quarterback.
Fortunately, Pittman said that Wentz has no problems with exchanging numbers.
“[Wentz] in fact, he texted me about two hours after the news was released, and he just asked me how I felt about it, and I told him it would be, and he said it was cool and that he would change numbers, and that was easy, “said Pittman in” Good Morning Football “via NFL.com.” I mean, he was a cool guy about it, so it was amazing. “
Pittman told TMZ that he explained to Wentz how he was caught using No. 11 during the 2020 season, which is why he didn’t want to make any changes. According to Pittman, Wentz said “This is cool, man, because I’m probably going to switch anyway.”
Pittman was also pleasantly surprised that Wentz was so nice about everything.
“He asked me with great respect and I just appreciated him for that,” said Pittman via TMZ. “I think he’s a great guy, because a lot of guys with his status came and demanded and things like that.”
Honestly, Wentz may want to thank Pittman for staying firm on keeping number 11. Considering how things ended for Wentz in Philadelphia, it’s probably a good idea to pick a new number and start from scratch.
